Stop-motion Video

Stop-motion style video cut to a song in Remotion, one pose per eighth note and cuts on the bar

About

A motion skill from Kosta, lead designer at Steel, for making stop-motion style video synced to music, with Remotion proposed by default. The frame rate stays low on purpose: each pose holds for one eighth note of the song and everything changes together on the beat. Pages come on at bar lines, clicks land on kicks and snares, big changes land on the big kicks, and the skill teaches when to break the grid by dropping the music, holding a result or cutting whole bars. It covers measuring a song's tempo, bars and drops, the beat clock, pose spacing, seven kinds of page change with no fades, sound and ducking, type in the frame, checking sync with contact sheets and measured audio, and playing scenes live on a web page against a metronome. It ships Remotion beat helpers and transitions in TypeScript plus dependency-free Node scripts to find tempo, duck music around clicks and write a metronome track. Distilled from a 47-second launch film cut to a 169.825 BPM drum and bass track.

Access

Medium

What this skill's own files let it touch on your machine and accounts. Access isn't a verdict: check the publisher and the security audits too.

  • Bundles scripts
  • Runs shell commands
  • Writes files in your project
  • No network access
  • No credentials needed

Bundles three dependency-free Node scripts (find-tempo, duck, make-metronome) that read and write 16-bit PCM WAV files locally and make no network calls, plus Remotion helper files (beat.ts, transitions.tsx) you copy into a Remotion 4 project. Needs Node 18 or later; ffmpeg converts songs to WAV. No credentials. No music, samples or fonts are included, so bring your own track and clear its rights.
