RTK (Rust Token Killer)

Cut what your coding agent reads by compressing shell output before it hits the context

About

Token optimization CLI and hook for AI coding agents

RTK installs a hook in your agent so shell commands are rewritten to rtk equivalents automatically, with under 20 ms of overhead. Test runs collapse to failures only, git log keeps hash, author and subject, directory listings become trees with counts, and file reads favor signatures over full bodies. The project claims 60 to 90% smaller output on common dev commands, and it is honest about what that means: it shrinks bash output, which is only one part of your bill. Run rtk gain to see your own savings. An optional RTK Proxy also trims API traffic, and RTK Pro adds a team layer with cost analytics. One gotcha: another crate named rtk exists, so check rtk gain works after install. The repo has about 84k GitHub stars and was trending again today. Repo: https://github.com/rtk-ai/rtk.
