Open source Semrush and Ahrefs alternative with a native MCP server and agent skills

About
OpenSEO by Ben Senescu (@bensenescu) is an MIT-licensed alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs that skips the big monthly subscription. Data comes from DataForSEO and you pay only for the requests you make: bring your own API key when self-hosting (Docker for personal use, Cloudflare free plan for teams), or use the hosted version at openseo.so, which adds a markup on each DataForSEO request and offers an optional $10 per month supporter plan. The core workflows are keyword research, rank tracking, competitor insights, backlinks, site audits and AI visibility tracking. What makes it interesting for agent users is that it was built agent-first: a native MCP server lets Claude Code, Codex, ChatGPT (free and paid plans), OpenClaw or Hermes pull keyword and backlink data straight into a conversation, and prebuilt agent skills walk the agent through common SEO tasks. You can also fork it and vibe code your own custom SEO tool on top. The repo passed 24K GitHub stars in October 2026.

The Claude Code marketing skills I install first (SEO audit, copywriting, pricing) and three MCP tools that give them real SEO data.
I compare Tavily and Parallel as web search APIs for AI agents: free tiers, credit and per-request pricing, MCP servers and open source status.
Official MCP servers that let your agent read your bank, CRM, database, deployments and designs, so you can run the business by asking.
