Skill Recorder

Record a task once and turn it into a SKILL.md your agent can repeat

About

Skill Recorder is an open source Microsoft project, MIT licensed, with 5,000+ GitHub stars. It records clicks, app and window switches, pages you visit, an optional recorded terminal and, if you want, your spoken narration. Recording happens locally; analysis runs through your own GitHub Copilot sign in.

## How it works Hit record (Cmd+Shift+R or Ctrl+Shift+R) and do the task. A small bar shows capture, mic and terminal state while you work. Click Analyze and Copilot reconstructs one overall intent and an ordered list of steps you can edit. From the approved plan it generates a Skill (a `SKILL.md` procedure) or an Automation that runs on a schedule or trigger. ## Why it is useful The generated procedures prefer the agent's native tools, like the `gh` CLI or web fetch, over replaying UI clicks, and they generalize from your one example. Record yourself submitting one form and the skill can submit all of them. You can review the full SKILL.md before installing or exporting it. ## Install macOS first, with Windows 11 and Ubuntu supported. Copy the commit pinned install command from the latest GitHub release; it builds the app locally and adds a launcher. You need a GitHub account with Copilot access.
